WHO IS ELLE?

Have you ever found something that you’re so passionate about, that you just want to tell everyone about it and get them involved? That’s why I teach yoga.

From my first ever yoga class I was hooked, I remember seeing the regular ‘Yogis’ on the front row effortlessly twisting themselves into pretzel positions as the teacher called out strange words (which I later learned were Sanskrit) that were far beyond my comprehension. But rather than being put off by it I became so absorbed into the class that before it had even ended I was already looking forward to the next one.

I truly believe that if you do want to be a yoga teacher you really have to love it enough. Enough to sacrifice your own practice to invest your time into teaching others. I want to share yoga with others, I want to be inspiring and I want my passion for yoga to be infectious. There’s nothing more heart-warming than hearing someone tell you that they started yoga because you’ve inspired them, or someone coming to their first ever yoga practice and sharing that with you. It sounds very fluffy but to be that first impression that someone has of yoga, I find that quite a big deal – quite special!

Yoga is so inclusive, it really is for everyone and I love that! It’s non-judgemental and completely unbiased. Everyone’s so focussed on their own practice that you can almost feel that you’re the only one in the room. It’s about personal development, without any competition yoga is about YOU. Nobody gets a trophy for being the most bendy and believe it or not, it’s not something you can be ‘good’ or ‘bad’ at. Each and everyone of us are built differently which means everyone’s practice is so varied and individual.

People will often say ‘I can’t do yoga, I’m not flexible’ … you don’t need to be! Yoga is what promotes flexibility, increases strength, stability and balance - Everyone starts somewhere. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone, be open minded and give it a go.

For me yoga is the perfect way to detach from my busy mind. I’m quite driven, motivated and goal orientated that every day is full steam ahead. My brain is always ticking over. I love to turn off my phone, get away from social media, roll out my mat and just disconnect from everything for an hour or so. It’s the little things. For others that have a busy mind like mine you’ll understand that sometimes it’s pure bliss to just switch off and just… breathe!

“Yoga does not just change the way we see things. It transforms the person who sees.”

— B.K.S Iyengar
